Summer Life
The plans of mice and men....
So, I finished uni. Husband quit his job. Kids were out of school. So let’s pack up our house, put what we need in a trailer and bugger off, shall we???
It was a great idea. We got rid of a shed-load of unwanted belongings and put the rest into storage. We bought a box trailer and packed it full of our stuff and off we went. Tools of our respective trades to pick up work along the way. A summer off. Adventures and travelling, no time keeping .
The plan was to head North - up to the wilds of Scotland to visit friends and old haunts and then out to Europe. We should have known better… Work and opportunities intervened. We didn’t even leave Wales!!
It was still pretty amazing - very freeing too. Leaving a house and all of its bills behind, knowing that everything you needed was in the car and that you could pick up and move at any time. The girls loved it - they swam in the sea, surfed, explored, learned to ride their bikes and spent their lives outside.
The irony of this summer was that it was SO fucking hot!! It was almost too hot to camp. There was nowhere to hide from the sun - by July the grass was yellow and barbecues were banned. At 6am it was too hot to sleep. Scotland would have been a perfect spot to be (Ha!)
Now it’s April again - rugby season is over and I have itchy feet… the teepee is calling.
Our Camping Kit List.
Robens Kiowa Tipi Ten, Inner and Carpet - we bought this at Obi Camping in Cardiff - not only an independent shop but the best price we found too!
Robens White River Kettle from Cotswolds Outdoor
Kido bunks for the girls.
Vango Shangri-La 10cm Double, self-inflating mat. Bought from here - a great website with videos of the mats and reviews. Super helpful. PLUS it came with 2 inflating memory foam pillows. PLUS PLUS - most comfortable sleeping mat EVER. I think I prefer it to our mattress…(There was no blydi way I was camping for a summer without sleeping comfortably!)
These things made camping easy. We had space for us and our dogs to sleep, live and cook. It never took long to set up, I could put the teepee up with the girls easily and quickly (even if I was a sweaty mess!)
